What is an SFP+ transceiver?

SFP+ is the 10-Gigabit evolution of the SFP form factor, using the same housing but operating at 10× the bandwidth. It is the most widely deployed 10G module type in Ethernet switches, routers, and storage networks.

What are the reach options for 10G transceivers?

SR (short reach) runs up to 300 m on OM3 or 400 m on OM4 multimode fiber at 850 nm. LR (long reach) covers 10 km on single-mode at 1310 nm. ER (extended reach) covers 40 km and ZR covers 80 km at 1550 nm. DWDM variants support 80+ km with precise ITU grid wavelengths for CWDM/DWDM metro rings.

Are 10G transceivers compatible with Cisco, Juniper, and Arista?

Yes. SFP+ transceivers are compatible with Cisco SFP-10G-SR/LR, Juniper SFP-10GE-LRM, Arista SFP-10G equivalents, and all other MSA-compliant 10G cages. XFP modules are used in legacy 10G SONET, carrier Ethernet, and MSPP platforms.

What are 10G transceivers used for?

10G is the workhorse speed tier for enterprise uplinks, data-center top-of-rack switching, storage area networks (10G Fibre Channel), and carrier Metro Ethernet. Video surveillance and healthcare imaging systems also rely heavily on 10G SFP+ for lossless, high-bandwidth transport. Industrial-grade variants (−40°C to 85°C) are available for outdoor and harsh-environment deployments.
