Data rates include 10.3 Gbps (10GbE), 9.95 Gbps (OC-192/STM-64), 10.52 Gbps (10G Fibre Channel), and 11.1 Gbps (OTU2e).
What is an SFP+ transceiver? SFP+ is the 10-Gigabit evolution of the SFP form factor, using the same housing but operating at 10× the bandwidth. What are the reach options? SR (short reach) runs up to 300 m on OM3 or 400 m on OM4 multimode fiber at 850 nm. LR (long reach) covers 10 km on single-mode at 1310 nm. ER (extended reach) covers 40 km and ZR covers 80 km at 1550 nm. DWDM variants support 80+ km with precise ITU grid wavelengths for CWDM/DWDM metro rings.
SFP+ transceivers are compatible with Cisco SFP-10G-SR/LR, Juniper SFP-10GE-LRM, Arista SFP-10G equivalents, and all other MSA-compliant 10G cages. XFP modules are used in legacy 10G SONET, carrier Ethernet, and MSPP platforms.
10G is the workhorse speed tier for enterprise uplinks, data-center top-of-rack switching, storage area networks (10G Fibre Channel), and carrier Metro Ethernet. Video surveillance and healthcare imaging systems also rely heavily on 10G SFP+ for lossless, high-bandwidth transport. Industrial-grade variants (−40°C to 85°C) are available for outdoor and harsh-environment deployments.
