The 100G category includes three form factors: QSFP28 (the dominant 100G standard, carrying 4×25G lanes), SFP-DD (dual-density SFP with 2×50G lanes), and SFP56-DD. QSFP28 is the universal 100G transceiver used in data center spine, carrier aggregation, and cloud backbone networks worldwide.

What reach options are available for 100G? SR4 (short-reach 4-fiber parallel): 70 m on OM3, 100 m on OM4. LR4 (4-wavelength LAN-WDM long-reach): 10 km on SMF. CWDM4: 2 km on SMF, optimized for campus and inter-data-center. ER4: 40 km for metro and regional. ZR: 80 km on SMF at 1550 nm (EML-based). PSM4: 500 m to 2 km on 8-fiber MPO. AOC: 1–100 m active optical cable.

Are 100G QSFP28 transceivers compatible with Cisco, Juniper, and Arista? All Coretek Opto QSFP28 modules are MSA-compliant and drop-in compatible with Cisco Nexus 9300/9500, Juniper PTX/QFX, Arista 7280/7500R, Dell PowerSwitch Z-series, and all other QSFP28-caged platforms. What is the difference between QSFP28 SR4 and LR4? SR4 uses four parallel fibers at 850 nm for short distances; LR4 uses four LAN-WDM wavelengths on a single duplex fiber pair for 10 km.

100G is the dominant tier for data-center spine and aggregation layers, 5G midhaul transport, carrier wavelength services, and cloud provider inter-region links. QSFP28 to 4×SFP28 breakout is widely used to connect 100G spine ports to four 25G server leaf ports, maximizing port density. Industrial and extended-temperature variants support outdoor telecom, military communications, and energy grid deployments.
